A blockchain, originally block chain, is a continuously growing list of records, called blocks, which are linked and secured using cryptography. Each block typically contains a cryptographic hash pointer as a link to a previous block, a timestamp and transaction data. By design, blockchains are inherently resistant to modification of the data. The Harvard Business Review describes it as “an open, distributed ledger that can record transactions between two parties efficiently and in a verifiable and permanent way.” For use as a distributed ledger, a blockchain is typically managed by a peer-to-peer network collectively adhering to a protocol for validating new blocks. Once recorded, the data in any given block cannot be altered retroactively without the alteration of all subsequent blocks, which requires collusion of the network majority.
Blockchains are secure by design and are an example of a distributed computing system with high Byzantine fault tolerance. Decentralized consensus has therefore been achieved with a blockchain. This makes blockchains potentially suitable for the recording of events, medical records, and other records management activities, such as identity management, transaction processing, documenting provenance, food traceability or voting.
The first blockchain was conceptualized in 2008 by an anonymous person or group known as Satoshi Nakamoto and implemented in 2009 as a core component of bitcoin where it serves as the public ledger for all transactions. The invention of the blockchain for bitcoin made it the first digital currency to solve the double spending problem without the need of a trusted authority or central server. The bitcoin design has been the inspiration for other applications.

Throughout 2017, the Kraken exchange has suffered from DDoS attacks and performance issues, to the point where the site has become mostly unusable. Trading volumes have declined as a result. Law firm Berns Weiss LLP in may of 2017 has begun scrutinizing Bitcoin exchanges involved in DDoS attacks. It will investigate claims on behalf of the users of crypto exchanges Kraken and Poloniex who may have suffered losses as a result of manipulation and insider trading. In November 2017, Kraken CEO Jesse Powell apologized for the site issues, but praised its security, citing its impeccable record.
Selling Online? Do This to Increase Conversions
You might think this is getting rather picky, but I’ve found it flat out works.
When advertising anything with a price, lower the left-hand portion of the price and test it against your original price.
For example, if you’re currently selling your ebook for $10.00, lower the price to $9.99. Yes, I know it’s only a penny, but look at the left side of those two numbers – 10 versus 9.
People aren’t all that logical. They’re not good at math, either. So while you and I know it’s only a lousy penny, somewhere in their brain they are perceiving one price as being ten bucks and the other prices as nine bucks.
Try it. You’re going to be pleasantly surprised at the increase in sales.

Ethereum is an open-source, public, blockchain-based distributed computing platform featuring smart contract (scripting) functionality. It provides a decentralized Turing-complete virtual machine, the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), which can execute scripts using an international network of public nodes. Ethereum also provides a cryptocurrency token called “ether”, which can be transferred between accounts and used to compensate participant nodes for computations performed. “Gas”, an internal transaction pricing mechanism, is used to mitigate spam and allocate resources on the network.
Ethereum was proposed in late 2013 by Vitalik Buterin, a cryptocurrency researcher and programmer. Development was funded by an online crowdsale that took place between July and August 2014. The system went live on 30 July 2015, with 11.9 million coins “premined” for the crowdsale. This accounts for approximately 13 percent of the total circulating supply.
In 2016, as a result of the collapse of The DAO project, Ethereum was split into two separate blockchains – the new separate version became Ethereum (ETH), and the original continued as Ethereum Classic (ETC).
