Secure Digital (SD) is a non-volatile storage card format produced by the SDCARD Relationship (SDA) for use in lightweight devices.
The typical was released in August 1999 by joint attempts between SanDisk, Panasonic (Matsushita Electric) and Toshiba as a noticable difference over MultiMediaCards (MMC), and is just about the industry standard. The three companies made SD-3C, LLC, a firm that licenses and enforces intellectual property protection under the law associated with SD memory space credit cards and SD variety and ancillary products.
The firms also shaped the SD Connection (SDA), a non-profit firm, in January 2000 to market and create SDCARD requirements. SDA today has about 1,000 member companies. The SDA uses several trademarked logos held and accredited by SD-3C to enforce conformity with its technical specs and assure users of compatibility.
